South Florida Water Management District Announces Modified Phase II Water Usage Restrictions for Lower east Coast of Florida, including Miami-Dade County

(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Ample recent rain in South Florida, including Miami-Dade County, has helped to improve water supply conditions in the area.  In response, the South Florida Water Management District's (SFWMD) Governing Board today approved modified water restrictions for Florida's Lower East Coast, which includes Miami-Dade.

A Modified Phase II water shortage declaration is now in effect for Miami-Dade County, limiting all landscape irrigation to two days per week and four hours per day.  However, restrictions on all other uses of water have been lifted.

Under Modified Phase II restrictions, which are effective immediately, irrigation at homes, businesses and government facilities is allowed two days a week, as follows:

Addresses ending in odd numbers (1, 3, 5, 7 or 9): Wednesdays and Saturdays from 4 a.m. to 8 a.m.

Addresses ending in even numbers (0, 2, 4, 6 or 8): Thursdays and Sundays from 4 a.m. to 8 a.m.

Under Modified Phase II restrictions, other outdoor water uses, such as low-volume pressure cleaning, hand-watering, and car and boat washing, are no longer restricted; agricultural, industrial, commercial, golf course, and recreational water uses also are no longer restricted.  These restrictions apply to users who obtain their water from public utilities, private wells, canals, ponds and lakes.

Despite the looser water use restrictions, Miami-Dade residents are encouraged to continue voluntarily saving water both inside and outside the home.  For additional information, Miami-Dade residents can call the WASD Waterline at 305-448-SAVE (7283) or call the SFWMD's toll-free toll-free Water Conservation Hotline at (800) 662-8876; or they can visit http://www.miamidade.gov/conservation/  or http://www.sfwmd.gov/conserve.
